The fourth of Freud’s psychosexual developmental stages, taking place from ages 6-12 (puberty), and involves the repression of sexual impulses as the libido lies dormant.
During this stage, energy is focused on peer interactions and the development of defense mechanisms. Fixation in this stage can lead to sexual unfulfillment.
